The BBC posted a series of pictures of creatures (many of the invertebrate persuasion I am partial to) that will likely take your breath away. Scientists recently released photos of many of the "jelly-like" creatures they encountered using submersibles to dive into the Arctic. They are stunning, to say the least. Sadly, this is all I have as it appears to be a slow news day. Most of the news is about our mutated genes and how related we all are. Really, though, go look at the photos... they are out of this world.
I really am blue today... today was supposed to be beach day for me, Floyd, and hubs since we don't see each other as often as one would like, but alas.... no blue skies or water. The weather fates are against me.
Remember, you can participate in Monday Blues also. This week, SeaLaura hosts so stop by and leave a comment with your link.
I can't believe this is already the 9th installment of Monday Blues. As always, feel free to participate on your blog and leave a link. Today you will have to leave the link on SeaLaura's site as she is hosting this week.
So now on to the picture....
One of the most exciting things I have ever done was go hang gliding one Christmas with my husband. We were in the rainforest in Puerto Rico, El Yunque. Since it was our first time, we had to go tandem (with someone more professional level) but it was still a blast. See the person in red waving (you will have to look at it bigger)? That's me! I had so much fun. It was less of an adrenaline rush and more of a Zen moment. We sailed into the blue sky with the jungle below and it was marvelous!
Now on to the Floyd update:
She is good. She was sick. I took her in on Saturday. She was already jovial by then, but I didn't want to take chances. She did have a UTI, but the antibiotics seem to work great, she is already bouncing and things seem normal elsewhere as well. Thanks for all your warm wishes!
Today I feel a bit inspired by SeaLaura's post. I want a beach day. Funny considering I live on an island, but alas... Mimi has been a busy body recently with many things work related. It's ok, the butterflies have not decided to revolt as of yet!
This picture was taken at the Baths in Virgin Gorda. The boulders on shore are fantastic and make a ton of really cool windows and "caves" to hang out in and climb about. I, too, want to go sailing. Alas, no time yet. I am off to do more stuff until I need sleep again. Ay me!
Remember, you can participate in Monday Blues as well! Just leave a comment with a link to your "Monday Blues" post or just the picture. Happy New Week!
Happy New Week everyone. This Monday I am showing more BLUE water of course with one of my favorite seafaring birds: the Brown Pelican. Nick took this fantastic shot with our old fantastic digital camera that is not lost at sea somewhere. *sniff* I loved that thing.
This picture is so fantastic it makes me want to leap into the water as well. The coolest part about pelicans, as far as I'm concerned, is what a grouping of them is called. They are a squadron of pelicans. Isn't that appropriate? Takes my blues away.
SeaLaura is hosting this week so make sure you post a link in her comments to your Monday Blues link. If nothing else, you should just go check out her amazing picture of St. John. Stunning.
Ah... I really have been sick. I can't believe I am doing another Monday post. I hope you all have had a great week. Now on to another installment of Monday Blues! Today I feel like being mushy. Sometimes you have to do it. This picture is from my wedding. They are my bridesmaids. They look lovely in this turquoise blue. I wanted them to all wear what they wanted, but they wanted to look like bridesmaids so they all have matchy dresses. Aren't they lovely? I figured this would make me feel better since I still feel a bit out of it.
Remember, you can participate in Monday Blues as well. Just do a post and leave the link in the comments... or you can just leave the picture in the comments, that works too! Don't forget, next week SeaLaura hosts.
Ah, Monday! Why is it that you bring the Blues?
I have the blues today because I missed the blues and jazz concert I had been waiting for (for about a month!) last night. Oh well. C'est la vie, n'est pa? I also went through some old pictures and I miss having hair this short.
To the right is me in, um, 2004 I suppose. Nick and I made a trip cross country. We stopped in Steamboat Springs, CO and hiked around for a bit with a friend. We came across an amazing waterfall and I had to climb to the top. We did and this image is my proof! Yes, that is me hanging from a tree at the top of the falls. I am wearing my favorite blue Hard Rock hoodie. If you look even closer, I have a little blue star in my ear. I wonder what happened to that earring. Hmmm. Not the most flattering picture, but you try to look cute upside down! That was a fun adventure!
If only I could remember where we were. I want to go back.
Don't forget, SeaLaura is hosting this week so go leave a link to your submission of Monday Blues in the comments!
Happy Monday!
Since my mind is not in science mode today (well, it sort of is...) I am going to do a post dedicated to my favorite animal: my dog. The dog has been touted as man's best friend for a really long time. Floyd is a part of my family. As Cheryl from My Wildlife Sanctuary did a few weeks ago, this is in honor of our pals and our therapists.
They lick our wounds when we are hurt and jump with us when we are excited. This is for you, Floyd, and all the other dogs out there that make us happy. Please feel free to paste cutie pictures of your "children" in the comments!
1st picture: Floyd being the "coconut" retriever she is.
2nd picture: guard dog Floyd
3rd picture: A woman I met named Christina in St. John at some ruins with Floyd. She said Floyd was her lioness.
4th picture: Me and Floyd cell phone picture this morning
5th picture: Floyd at Lerkenlund.
Allllllrightyyyy! So my post for Monday Blues is a bit later in the day, but I hope you enjoy it. This is me and the hubs in St. John overlooking Coral Bay. we're both in blue... but this picture takes my blues away. We don't have too many days off together and this trip was a blast! Note my sunburned cheeks! I know my other partner in crime for these postings, SeaLaura, will love the St. John reference!
I don't usually post too many pictures of myself and less of the hubs, but I like this picture.
Remember... you are allowed to post submissions for Monday Blues. Just leave a link in the comments! Have a happy Monday!
My mum-in-law (thanks Mom #2!) sent me this amazing link today to a website called Visuals Unlimited. The website is full of amazing photos of the microscopic and natural world. The website is smart and won't let you just upload images to other websites... So I want you to click here.
Did you click?
Ok... I know not everyone is into bugs like me, but they have all kinds of neat and sometimes disturbing (they do medical photography as well) images. The skill level is outstanding. I think this is the sort of skill all photographers aspire to... if we ever reach that level is another story all together. In the end though, it is jut really beautiful stuff.
Go. Look. Enjoy!
I realized that my posts have been really formal recently and haven't let all my friends out in the blogosphere in on what has been going on down here. It turns out St. Thomas is NOT recession proof. While the number of people visiting has stayed about the same, sales all over are down and that means fewer (somehow) hours for Mimi. This is really bad because a certain male figure in the house has a commission based sales job. Mimi to the rescue, I hope! I have mentioned in passing that I do paint silliness every now and again. Surprisingly, in the middle of this economic disaster, the one thing people really want to buy is something locally made. My little side hobby of painting bags and mini canvases has had quite the surge in the past few weeks, so just to make myself feel better about the sorry state of affairs we are in now, I am going to show you some pictures of a few of the things I have done so far. The picture quality is not that great, but they are from my cellular phone. They are little 2" x 4" canvases. No pictures of bags, sorry.
I feel like today needs to be another picture day... My mind is racy and I need to focus on simple, so here goes... pictures with blue.
I have been trying to come up with anything intelligent to talk about here, but I seem to have a serious case of cerebral flatulence (brain fart) today. Instead, I will post pictures of the beach. Sure to make SeaLaura happy.
The first fuzzy blue picture is a sea turtle. I know I could have taken the blue out but I am feeling particularly lazy today. Sorry.
The next picture is a view of Oppenheimer Bay from the water. These were the days when I hadn't lost a very nice digital camera and underwater housing to Davey Jones' Locker. Ah well. Such is life.
The last picture is the down island view from the Annaburg Sugar Plantation Ruins in the National Park. Quite a lovely little place. This is all I have the energy for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Since I was grumbley yesterday from not finding my pictures through the hordes of CDs and the like that I have full of them (I really need a new digital camera) I am posting a lot of the ones I finally did find of myself at Dinosaur National Monument. It is a really remarkable place. There are amazing vistas, stunning rock formations, fossils in the walls, cave paintings... luckily Nick and I were some of the last visitors to the Quarry Visitor Center. The ground actually shifted and cracked the foundation and did considerable other damage to the building. You can still see the museum virtually at the National Park Service website.
First, the one for yesterday's post: Me with a Dinosaur Femur.
