Anyone who follows Potspoon! on Facebook knows that I randomly post things pertaining to science, but that are not really post worthy like science songs, animal guessing games, science jokes and more. Well this video is short enough and silly enough that I deemed it worthy of posting here. It is the Amoeba Song by the Adolescents. Science humor is awsome.
This video was posted October 1st. It comes in and out of the news occassionally, but the fact is, this disaster (while minimal compared to oil disasters on the coast of Africa) serves as a wake up call to us here.

This may seem an unlikely post for Potspoon!, but it is not without reason. There are a lot of different factors that made me pursue sciences as a career (or, as the case is currently, hobby) and one of them was this fantastical commercial. The song has been stuck in my head for years. Really. Realize that I was about five years old when I remember seeing this video the first time. It was so cool! Are there any silly commercials that made an impact on your life?
Butterflies and moths are harmless animals, right? I mean, until today, even I thought they were. They only drink nectar or fruit and fly around getting drunk. They don't have anything that can hurt you. Well, this was until I read a Halloween post on Wildlife Promise, a blog run by the National Wildlife Federation. On this post I saw something AMAZING. The following video is from the National Geographic website.
You can find out more here. Scary, huh? This really freaked me out a bit. Happy little moths are evolving a thirst for BLOOD?!?!?! eek! Nature is amazing.They have been dubbed vampire moths. I am just happy that, as of yet, they are found only in Russia near the China border. I can't wait to see what we find out about these guys.
... and no it's not me. This is what I get for not having a TV. I found him surfing the web today... Apparently there is this syrupy sweet boy who does his own wildlife minis also and they are really good. If I had a television perhaps I would have caught his appearances on various shows. His name is Enzo and his show rocks. His show is ENZOology and is quite popular apparently. I was blown away. It makes my videos seem pointless... *le sigh* What he is doing is amazing though. I really wish more children viewed the outdoors and sciences this way. You should go to his website. It really is awsome. Yay, Enzo!
Read more...In case you all were wondering, I am an aspiring wildlife filmmaker, but I suck and there aren't many people where I live who are any good at ANY sort of film making, so I get left to my own crude devices. Today, however, I am pleased to announce that the makers of one of my favorite video podcasts (Ecogeeks) has an excellent introductory guide to wildlife filmmaking. This makes me super happy because even though a lot of it seems obvious after reading it, I hadn't used some of those tricks and I felt like a moron reading it. I am glad that they are giving the layperson some tips in this aspect. It's exciting to know that someone saw the need for a resource for wildlife filmmakers!
If anyone knows anything about sources or cheap courses in cinematography, let me know!
I'm dreadfully sorry the new video isn't up like I promised, but there are a lot of good reasons behind it! My very best friend (besides my husband) is working on scripts for me so that I can say things without so much hesitation. I know the stuff, I'm just nervous! She will also appear in episodes as needed. The show was our idea and hopefully she will get her computer working again so she can help me keep up with this website. Thanks for your patience!
