Okay, yes I am a dork, but I am ecstatic about all the cool things out there for the holidays. This is what I want. I know I will end up with treats for my dog, but a girl can dream, right?
First up: this awesome Bluetooth

Yeah, we know all about those bluetooth headsets for cell phones, but forget that stuff! We have here the latest development in cell phone technology and it's a big hunk of beautiful plastic. An accessory for your phone that you can really grab onto. Something with heft and that good-old-American solid construction feel - like a 1972 Cadillac. The Retro Phone Handset is a new production replica of the Western Electric 500-series model, which was the classic phone handset for several decades. It's been slightly modified to work with the headset jack of most cell phones (or via a "hands free" adapter kit, sold elsewhere). Just plug-in and dial - or for added effect, put your cell phone in your pants pocket - then it looks like you're talking on a phone connected to... well, who knows?Cool. Next is the video series I am dying to see:

Since it's the winter holiday season (and I haven't written about much else in a while), we are going to talk about an animal that for some reason has become closely associated with this time of year: the reindeer. The reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) is also known as a caribou. They live in areas all over the world nearest the Arctic circle. The bull or male caribou can weigh up to 700 lbs. while the female is smaller and can reach weights of 350 lbs. In North America, usually only the domesticated ones are still called reindeer and in the wild are known as caribou.
Caribou are members of the deer family but are the only member in which males and females both grow antlers. Females in good health can breed at 16 months and calving usually occurs from May to June. They will usually have one calf per year.
Due to the harsh environs these animals live in, they must migrate great areas to maintain an adequate supply of food. They will eat lots of things from various shrubs to lichens and more. The males will lose their coats in about August marking the start of this migratory and breeding season. Herds of caribou have differences in ranges of about 400 miles between summer and winter. They do not fly. :D
Happy holidays!

I love food, so unlike most who get anxiety thinking of all the extra holiday calories, I revel in them. Tonight is a big feast night for many of us in the Caribbean and Latin communities. They even celebrate it in the Philippines! It is Noche Buena. It is pretty much the kick off to the Twelve Days of Christmas, ending on January 6th (Epiphany), or what we refer to as 3 Kings Day. It is pretty Catholic in tradition, but we all still celebrate it. It has become ingrained in our culture, so to speak. Enough about that though.... Cheers to everyone and try to enjoy the giving more, okay? :D![]()

We finally have power of nearly 2 whole days without electricity. I was going to cook today anyway (gas stove) but I am glad to have power again. It means I can do the dishes in the sink! We all have cisterns here and we can't get water from it unless there is power to work the pump! Well, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Just to remind myself, here is my
Top 10 Things to be Thankful For...
10) Medication. Yes, I need it and I am glad I have it.
9) My mom finally got her business license!
8) I really don't have to worry about when I will get my next meal.
7) My gas stove. It is nice being able to still have hot food when there is no power.
6) I can buy myself books and things.
5) The Beast. That is the name of my not so beautiful car. She's ugly (and I mean that), but she eats these steep hillsides for breakfast and I love her. Do I really need more?
4) I am thankful for the rain water in my cistern. Many people don't have access to clean water so I am REALLY thankful for that.
3) Floyd.
2) and 1) it's a tie. My mom and my husband for both putting up with my mood swings (living with bipolar disorder is not easy... living with someone who has it is worse), my crazy ideas, and still loving me no matter what!
What are you thankful for??
Happy Turkey Day!![]()
I have been lucky enough to be asked to pass this information along to my readers. I usually avoid doing promotions in my posts, but since the holidays are quickly encroaching on my calendar time and probably yours, I figured I would share. The Discovery Store has a special going on for the next 5 days only- until November 25th- for readers of this site. You get an extra 25% off and free shipping on orders over $75. Just enter the code FANDF8.
This makes me happy! I love the Discovery Store. I used to spend hours in there as a kid wishing I could buy it all. I think the only thing I actually got there as a kid (defintitely more as an adult) was some book on how to juggle, so worth it! I still have my juggling balls!
They have educational toys (and NO it doesn't mean boring), electronics, eco-friendly (like a cute little paper recycling kit), books, DVDs of all the great programming on the Discovery Channel and more. The Discovery Store is the place to get anything for the gadget lover/smarty pants/scientist/geek/genius in the making in your family. Just click the little red banner above to get to the site. The code and discounts only work if you click through the little banner. Well, that's what they told me anyway... :D![]()
The holidays (YIKES!!!) are quickly approaching with American Thanksgiving less than a week away. I won't be spending it with much family. Nick does have a brother on the island so he might be # 3. SO far though, I was thinking turkey pot pie and video games. I'm not really sure what to do. Last year we didn't even spend any holidays together so I am sort of at a loss. The year before we had both of Nick's brothers over and the year before that we were in Utah so we had LOTS of family over. I guess this post is just asking for advice. What would you do for such a small group. I sort of liked the pot pies and video games because that is something we all enjoy. Or maybe we could grill turkey on the beach??? Any ideas? I know some of you are crafty/creative/smart when it comes to this homemaker stuff. I am still learning.![]()
