Happy Bloggiversary!

Today is the day. Potspoon! is officially 1! In honor of this momentous occasion, I am having a giveaway!!!!!!! Lucky for you, it isn't something too horribly science related. Unfortunately, because of things that are going wacky in real life, I have no pictures of good quality. They are cell phone picts. Sorry. I can give a good description so here goes.
One lucky winner chosen randomly will win either one of my unique hand painted canvas totes- perfect for groceries and the like- or one of my super mini paintings! The bags are about 15" square and the mini paintings are 2"x2" to 3"x3" in size and include a mini easel. Some examples follow below.
These are bags I have done for various things. Again, designs vary.![]()

I'm am very excited because yours truly (that's me) has made it on the wonderful team of 5 Minutes for Going Green as a monthly blogger. It is an environmental blog and I will be doing monthly installments on "green" science and things of the like. I am very excited because while there have been many posts in the past about science and the environment, it hasn't been very often... and I love the opportunity to teach, as you all know by now. I will try to get posts up by the 14th of every month and really hope some of you will visit me there as well. You can see my already posted profile here.
In other news... I actually cross-post everything on this website to cariblogger.com which is a WP site for bloggers in the Caribbean. I did this to reach bloggers locally and boy did I find a great one. Jules Gibson is a photographer in Guyana and his photo blog is astounding. I highly recommend you check it out. His photos really capture Caribbean life and all of its "roogoodoo."If you really want a taste of life in the Caribbean, his pictures are priceless. Be warned... this is not just beaches and palm trees here. This is life for those of us NOT on vacation.
and now... a random picture for those of you freezing to remind you that I too lived where it was cold. This is me in front of lake ice breaking up. Not flattering, but you get the point. This was in my shorter hair days and Nick caught me off guard. Ah well.![]()
A New Badge

See that up there? Right below my header? It's tiny, but very important. I am now officially a member of the Nature Blog Network. Yeah, I know, so are 529 other blogs (there's 530). I'm happy anyway. I feel vindicated being alongside blogs I already read like Greg Laden and The Other 95%. Sure they are in the top 40... but I will work my way up... don't you worry! :D As of this post, I am 494. You know what that is? NOT LAST. *victory dance*

I went in to my university library today to renew a book that I found called "The World's Famous Orations." It is actually part of a volume of, yes you guessed, the worlds best speeches. The books were published in 1906 and are in good shape for being over 100 years old. I am a sucker for old books. While I was talking to the librarian about my passion for antique books, she mentioned that many of the university's books were being discarded due to age. Well, lo and behold, what is this tattered, taped together, gold leafed edged book I see? Why, it's "The Origin of the Species" printed in 1927! It's abused but lovely. I am typing this from the library now or I would already have the picture up! The best part was the cost: FREE.
