Monday Blues 5

>> Monday, February 16, 2009

Ah, Monday! Why is it that you bring the Blues?

I have the blues today because I missed the blues and jazz concert I had been waiting for (for about a month!) last night. Oh well. C'est la vie, n'est pa? I also went through some old pictures and I miss having hair this short.

To the right is me in, um, 2004 I suppose. Nick and I made a trip cross country. We stopped in Steamboat Springs, CO and hiked around for a bit with a friend. We came across an amazing waterfall and I had to climb to the top. We did and this image is my proof! Yes, that is me hanging from a tree at the top of the falls. I am wearing my favorite blue Hard Rock hoodie. If you look even closer, I have a little blue star in my ear. I wonder what happened to that earring. Hmmm. Not the most flattering picture, but you try to look cute upside down! That was a fun adventure!

If only I could remember where we were. I want to go back.

Don't forget, SeaLaura is hosting this week so go leave a link to your submission of Monday Blues in the comments!

Happy Monday!

A New Badge

>> Monday, November 3, 2008

See that up there? Right below my header? It's tiny, but very important. I am now officially a member of the Nature Blog Network. Yeah, I know, so are 529 other blogs (there's 530). I'm happy anyway. I feel vindicated being alongside blogs I already read like Greg Laden and The Other 95%. Sure they are in the top 40... but I will work my way up... don't you worry! :D As of this post, I am 494. You know what that is? NOT LAST. *victory dance*

I've been tagged.... NOOOOO!!!

>> Sunday, October 26, 2008

Okay well, it's not that bad, but since I did this one recently I am only posting a link back to the answers I put. Jennifer at Little Green Secrets got me this time. I also agree with Jennifer in the aspect of I need to run away faster from these things, but I needed to post something. See, that wasn't as painful as it could have been... Off to work I go. I will say hi to the lovely butterflies for you all!

An Aside for Something of Quasi-Great Importance

>> Saturday, October 18, 2008

I cut my hair! Yes yes, I know... this is not science, food, or music so what the heck Mimi??? Well it is an ART! ha! As The Queen (aka my mums) can attest to, I haven't paid for a hair cut in years. I do my own hair, in the bathroom. I must say, I am quite please with this one, too.

And now for the crowning glory.... a piece I like to call "the back of my head with socks"

Thank you for participating in the show.

:D

Large Hadron Collider Funnies

>> Friday, September 12, 2008

The Large Hadron Collider has been in the news a bit recently. A lot of people have said some crazy things like, "we are going to create a black hole and the earth will end." Okay, these people know nothing about science. Good thing us science types have silly senses of humor.

First things first... What is the LHC?

It is a 16.5 mile (27 km) underground ring (100 meters underground) below the Swiss/French border. It's purpose is to fling particles at each other and make them collide. Hopefully this will give us some insight to the milliseconds after the big bang. It is pretty much the NASCAR of the physicists community. If you wanna know who is involved (111 nations), click here.

I think this will give you the best summation of what this all entails...

NOW THAT IS FUNNY!

...and if you want to know if the LHC will bring the end of the world, go to Has the LHC Destroyed the Earth? website.

I love science humor!

Sound of eBay

>> Thursday, September 4, 2008

To those of us "in-the-know" there is a group of individuals behind two "hacker-artists" that creates songs using eBay arbitrary information. These guys are responsible for GWEI (Google Will Eat Itself), an exhibit that has been seen in galleries world wide. While it does seem strange, it's always interesting to see what your song will sound like. I did mine in June and it is very Euro-tech. Makes me want to play 16-bit racing games. Apparently mine is quite boring because I don't buy much. If you want to do your own, just because curiosity got the best of you, go to the Sound of eBay website. Be wary, however, the pixilations on the Sound of eBay website are lewd when viewed from afar. Up close they look like nothing. If your hubs is a ways behind you though, he will see it as quite a bit scandalous. Those crazy artist types have a wicked sense of humor. The link to my personal eBay song, however, is just an mP3 link so nothing scary to see. The whole piece (as it is "art") is called The Sound of eBay, Teletext porn, Human Needs.... and the corresponding images have numbers.

Please do not get mad at me if you click the link to the main site and are offended. It is art and art has the tendency to push envelopes. I just thought the technology behind this was amusing. The other 2 links are fine ("mine" and "GWEI").

Top 10 mad scienctists!

>> Friday, July 25, 2008

LiveScience posted a list of the top 10 mad scientists so far and while I have to agree with most of them, they left one out! Yes, I know how disturbing the picture is. I was inspired by A. Einstein's tongue picture and even wore a wig!

Read it. I promise it is simple and you will definitely learn something!
